Is there such a thing as the luckiest numbers in lottery?

Millions of people play lottery every week, from small local ones with a prize pool of just thousands to bigger ones going up to a few millions, and then of course, the huge lotteries. Millions of people play powerball in hopes to win a lot and be set for life. This week’s Powerball jackpot stands at around $306 million. But are there such things as lucky numbers in lottery?

Everyone has their own strategy when it comes to choosing the numbers. Some people simply let the computer decide which numbers to go with while some others use the same numbers over and over again, from week to week, year to year, be it their birthday or the birthday of someone close to them, numbers from their wedding date or anything else imaginable. And then there are people who do it more strategically, at least in theory, and base their numbers on mathematics, statistics, and … of course, historical experience.

NJ.com analysed the winning numbers from Powerball, Mega Millions, Pick 4 and many other lotteries, and combined three years worth of data. According to the results of the analysis, the luckiest numbers for Powerball have been 12, 25, 22, 24, 19, 15. Pick 6’s luckiest numbers are 42, 1, 32, 3, 39, 37. Best numbers for Pick 4 are 2, 0, 8, 4. And best numbers for Mega Millions are 7, 6, 3, 1, 4, 14.

These are the numbers that have worked best during the last three years. However, as we all know, lottery is all about luck. For example odds of winning with Powerball are roughly 40 times lower than being involved in a shark attack and 1000 times lower than being hit by a lightning. But people do win with lottery, based on luck. So while ANY strategy on choosing your numbers might work, by the end of the day, it’s all about luck.
