G4 To Debut LOST 2.0

By Larry Barrett — Multichannel News, 9/11/2008 2:06:00 PM
G4 will debut its latest programming acquisition, the popular ABC series Lost, on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 9 p.m. with interactive pop-ups that give viewers character profiles, show trivia and commentary from the hit show’s creators.

The network will air the Emmy Award-winning series every weeknight with its interactive application, beginning with the two-hour pilot episode.

“‘Lost in 2.0’ will give both existing and new fans the opportunity to delve deeper into one of television’s most talked-about shows and experience previously undiscovered aspects of the story, characters and mysteries that encircle the island,” network officials said in a statement. “With the premiere of all-new episodes on ABC delayed until early 2009, G4 offers the perfect forum for Lost addicts to reconnect with the series and gain insider scoop about their favorite characters and plotlines, while interacting with other fans online.”

LOST (2004-)
THE ESCAPEES Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), Sun (Yunjin Kim), Hurley (Jorge Garcia), Sayid (Naveen Andrews), Locke (Terry O’Quinn)
FLED FROM A mysterious island and its inhabitants, the Others
HOW THEY DID IT Seven castaways made their way onto the helicopter from the freighter (a.k.a. ”Not Penny’s Boat!”) in season 4′s finale, but when it got too heavy, Sawyer (Josh Holloway) sacrifices his freedom for the rest of the gang (sigh!). But we’d bet our biggest box of Apollo Bars that they’ll all be back soon enough….

LOST Recruits New Amsterdam Alum

Her name isn’t exactly a household one, but something tells me that’s all about to change.

In what reps the first major piece of casting for Lost‘s fifth season, sources confirm to me exclusively that Zuleikha Robinson has been tapped to play the pivotal role of Ilana.

Couple things: Before you ask, it’s pronounced Zoo-Lika. And she’s done stuff. Some high-profile stuff. Like Fox’s short-lived New Amsterdam, where she played Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s partner in crime. Prior to
that, the London-born actress slaved away as Gaia on HBO’s Rome and, in her first big break, had a regular gig on another ill-fated Fox drama, the X-Files spin-off The Lone Gunmen.

Robinson’s Lost deal calls for her to start off as a recurring player with an option to become a series regular in season 6 (a.k.a. the farewell season).

As I first reported last month, Ilana is described as a European female who possesses great
intelligence but who’s also dangerous as all get out.  She’s alluring and apparently used to getting her own way.

At the time, EW’s Doc Jensen mused that Ilana “sounds exactly like the kind of lethal lady Sayid would fall for. So I’m wondering if the dashing Iraqi is due for a new love interest, yet another lady whose
true motivations will be in question.”

Team Darlton’s not commenting on Doc’s theory, or Robinson’s casting for that matter (this radio-silence thing is going to be the death of me!), so I guess we’ll just have to wait until the new season kicks off in (ugh) five long months to see if he’s right. In the meantime, go ahead and weigh in on Lost‘s first big season 5 casting and, while you’re at it, feel free to toss out your own Ilana theories.

Get LOST again

While we’re waiting for another season of Lost — and we still have a really long wait — G4 is replaying the series starting Sept. 15.

“Lost 2.0″ will showcase every episode from the beginning and include commentary, on-screen facts and other enhancements. If you’ve forgotten some of Sawyer’s reading material or a few of those long-gone characters (Shannon and Boone are such distant memories, aren’t they?), then now might be the perfect time to refresh your memory.

Check the official site for a trailer and updates.

Update: Note that the Sci Fi Channel will begin airing Lost reruns Sept. 15 as well, starting with a four-episode block at 7 p.m. ET.

JJ Abrams: Fringe

August 28, 2008 3:53 PM

Let’s hope JJ Abrams’ new show, Fringe, has the some of the warm-hearted feel of Felicity – and not just the cold, clever, chess match plotting of Lost

A plane crash lands at an airport in Boston, all the passengers and crew mysteriously and gruesomely dead.
Within minutes we’ve met the FBI, an eccentric professor who has been in an asylum for decades and may or may not be suffering from paranoid delusions, and the professor’s roguish son who – surprise, surprise – has issues with daddy.
Welcome to Fringe, the hotly anticipated new show by JJ Abrams, the man behind Lost, Alias, Cloverfield and the upcoming Star Trek reboot.

LOST: The Sci-Fi 25 Greatest

11. LOST (2004-Present)
Created by J.J. Abrams
and Damon Lindelof

A mysterious island that’s home to a shape-shifting smoke monster, a weird science project tasked with saving the world, and a secret society of sinister ”Others” who can’t make babies ? yes, Lost certainly has its fair share of sci-fi stuff. And yet, like the best examples of the genre, this unfolding saga about plane-crash survivors trapped in a tropical twilight zone doesn’t wallow in its genre elements, but uses them to embellish an exploration of identity, community, and reality itself. Coyly sublimating everything from Jules Verne and H.G. Wells to Star Trek and Star Wars, Lost aspires to be an important entertainment for a pop-soaked, soul-searching age. Now, at the risk of missing the point, how about some damn answers?!

POP CULTURE LEGACY Building on pioneers The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lost helped to usher in a new era of serialized storytelling and showed Hollywood how cult-pop TV can be leveraged into cashcow franchises. Heroes, say hello to Daddy.

THE BEST BIT The Emmy-winning first season, with its perfect pilot and getting- to-know-you character flashbacks, is an object lesson in capturing the imagination.
