John Malkovich, Evangeline Lilly, and Romain Duris shotting Afterwards in Canada this summer - A Canada/France Co-production

MONTREAL, April 13 /CNW Telbec/ - French filmmaker Gilles Bourdos (Inquiétudes, Disparus, Relâche) will direct the supernatural thriller Afterwards this summer in Montreal. Afterwards, which is co-produced by France's Fidélité Films and Canada's Christal Film Productions, will be entirely shot in English. It will star John Malkovich (The Libertine, Being John Malkovich), Romain Duris (Molière, L'Auberge espagnole) and Canadian Evangeline Lilly (Lost), who passed over several other enticing Hollywood offers to makes her feature film debut in Afterwards.

The screenplay, written by Gilles Bourdos and Michel Spinosa, is an adaptation of the French novel Et après... by Guillaume Musso. The shooting will last 45 days, will begin in New York City on June 4th, and will continue in Montreal as of July 7th. The Montreal portion of the shoot is expected to last about 25 days. Key crew members include Taiwanese cinematographer Mark Lee Ping-bin (In the Mood for Love) and Montreal-based production designer Anne Pritchard.

Afterwards tells the story of Nathan (Romain Duris), a lawyer who is absorbed by his work and finds himself drifting away from his ex-wife (Evangeline Lilly) and daughter. He meets Joseph Kay (John Malkovich), a mysterious doctor who claims to be able to predict people's deaths.

Afterwards is produced by Marc Missonnier and Olivier Delbosc for Fidélité Films, and by Christian Larouche and Christian Gagné for Christal Films Productions. The film will be distributed in Canada by Christal Films, and will be released theatrically in 2008.
