If anything, last night’s season finale of Lost made two things crystal clear to me: (1) The show is coming to an end pretty soon, finally; and (2) Josh Holloway is definitely the best thing about Lost’s top-notch acting ensemble. Apropos of both points, then, here’s my question for the guy who plays Sawyer/James/LaFleur: Isn’t it about time you became a big star already, my man? C’mon! Get on with it! The show’s ending, game on!
I’m serious here — besides being the justifiable subject of many a woman/man crush (sure, I’m guilty as charged), Holloway proved in this breakthrough season that he really is a terrific actor with depth and charisma to spare. I mean, why did everyone respond so well (and so quickly) to the out-of-nowhere Sawyer-Juliet romance? Why did it seem to resonate so much more than pretty much every other love affair on Lost this side of Rose and Bernard? As Jon Lovitz would say, “Acting!” (Yes, credit is also due to Elizabeth Mitchell, though we already knew she was great.) All season long, Holloway totally sold it, making us believe that Sawyer truly is a lover and a fighter. And in the season finale he completely cemented his status as a leading man-to-be.
This guy has got to become a movie star. And now, with one year remaining on Lost, it’s the perfect time to begin. Holloway had once been slated to appear as Gambit in Wolverine, and while he’d be a good choice for most any superhero character, I can see him in a range of movies — from romantic comedies to thrillers — playing good guys and bad. Certainly, he has what it takes to be the show’s big breakout; after all, none of the other actors have managed to seriously capitalize on their fame.
Don’t you agree, PopWatchers? What should be Holloway’s next move? Think maybe George Lucas should consider starting up a Han Solo spin-off franchise for him?

He is the best actor for an adventure character since Harrison Ford. I don’t know about master Han Solo himself, but a new adventure film in the style of Indiana Jones, perhaps?
I would see it.

I really think that both Josh Holloway and Elizabeth Mitchell deserve awards for their acting in the finale especially. I really hope that he gets more movie roles when Lost is done, and I really hope he starts getting some recognition at awards shows.

My thoughts exactly. After La Fleur, I thought his acting had become top notch. I had read that somewhere that someone big in Hollywood thought that he could easily be huge movie star ( I don’t remember who). Josh himself has said he isn’t sure about having a starring role and that he’s more comfortable in supporting roles. It will be interesting to see where his career goes.

i think josh is a great actor. hed be great as a main role in movies. i agree with erfa. he could definitely pull off a Indiana-Jones-type role. But really, he’s so versatile, i really think he could do anything. He was made for hollywood, but he’s so shy and timid. He’s one of those guys who has so much potential, but just wants to stay in the background and doesn’t wanna show it off. It’s sad though. He should capitalize on what he’s got. If he does, he’ll definitely make it big. Elizabeth Mitchell really is great too. Her and Josh’s chemistry in the finale was extraordinary, and they seemed so genuine. Some of the best acting ever in television. LOST truly has the best cast ever. In my opinion, almost all of them could make it big.

Josh really did an amazing job this season, and especially in the finale.
However, just to clarify this comment ( “none of the other actors have managed to seriously capitalize on their fame”) – Matthew Fox has a very good movie career, while doing LOST at the same time. When LOST is over he will have more time to invest in his career. So besides Matthew, I think Josh will absolutely do well in the movies. He could take on any role – comedy, romance, drama, action……I mean we’ve seen him do it all, and do it all wonderfully. He definitely has the “leading man” qualities. Given that Damon and Carlton called Season 5 the “Season of Sawyer” I don’t think he will be taking over the main lead from Matthew, given that it’s time to wrap everything up. And since Jack is the one that connects everything, I think Season 6 will be his. It would be really nice to have Jack and Sawyer working side by side, together, for the good for the good of everyone. That is a relationship I’d like to see TPTB develop a bit more before it’s over. (with no Kate and/or Juliet drama involved AT ALL.) They need to get Jack with Kate, have Juliet be alive and come back to James, at the very beginning of Season 6 and not drag that whole debacle on any longer. Then the rest of Season 6 and concentrate on answering all the other questions and cleaning up everyone else’s story. I can’t wait!!!
